We understand that legal costs are an important consideration and we aim to be as clear and transparent as possible.
Our charges
Our fees will vary depending on the circumstances of your case and how complex it is. As a private paying client, our work is charged is charged on an hourly basis.
Every case is different and it can be difficult to give an exact figure for the total cost at the beginning.
However, we will always provide you with a clear estimate of costs at the start of your case and again before any court hearings.
If at any stage we believe the costs may exceed the estimate provided, we will let you know immediately and provide you with a revised estimate so there are no surprises.
Disbursements
From time to time, additional costs may arise. These are known as disbursements and are payments made to third parties on your behalf.
This can include:
- Court fees for issuing a divorce application, financial remedy application or other court proceedings
- Barrister’s fees if we need to instruct counsel to represent you in court
- Expert fees, such as:
- Chartered surveyors to prepare a property valuation
- Pension experts or actuaries to advice on pension sharing or offsetting
- Forensic accountants to value a business or assess shareholdings
Where experts are jointly instructed by both parties, their fees are usually shared equally.
Before any disbursement is incurred, we will always discuss this with you first.
In most cases, we will ask you to place funds on account so that we can arrange the payment when required.
